HW(Oct. 5, 2016)

Inequalities

Solving inequalities is like solving equations. To determine the value of the variable, you do the inverse operation (opposite). So, if the problem is addition, to solve you subtract.

Directions: Copy each word phrase and write it as an algebraic expression. Then, solve the inequality.

Example: The difference of n and 8 is less than 10.
                 n - 8 < 10
                    +8    +8
                      n < 18

1. The sum of a number and 7 is atmost 14.

2. A number increased by 10 is at least 27.

3. A number decreased by 17 is greater than 7.

4. A number t plus 12 is under 36.

5. The difference of r and 21 is a minimum of 42.
